CMAC running news CMAC member Heidi Wolfsberger was 10th out of 25 runners in the women's Olympic Development 5,000-meter run in the 112th Penn Relay Carnival on Thursday, April 27 in Philadelphia. Heidi finished in 17 minutes, 13.70 seconds. Like any true competitor, she wasn't pleased with her effort. She said she had wanted sub-17:00, fully within her reach. "I started off well, and fell off pace the last 1000m," Heidi said. "I need to work on my speed, and also get back into track racing -switching gears and working on my kick. I'll keep at it though - I still want to run sub-17!" Club coach Doug Renner said Heidi went through the first 1,600 in about 5:20 - a little fast for Heidi (16:40 pace) and she wasn't able to maintain the effort. A 5:40, perhaps, would have conserved her energy for when she needed it most. A sub-17:00 would have given Heidi a top 7 finish, but she's not too disappointed. She's already looking at meets at Villanova and, later this month, the Boston High Performance Series. CMAC, an affiliate of the Westminster Road Runners and Eldersburg Rogue Runners clubs, was formed in 2002 and focuses on providing support and competitive opportunities for post-collegiate runners.
