Green Terrors romp on their home turf.
It was a day for the Terror and a day for “burners” on the McDaniel College track. The 2009 McDaniel College 5k track run saw a turnout of 35 runners and a record winning time of 16:01 by McDaniel College runner Rob Kelvey. Not only that, the top three runners – Kelvey, Kevin Bowman, also a Terror cross country runner, and local legend Steve Kartalia, now a masters runner, and soon to be enshrined in Carroll County’s Athletic Hall of Fame, finished within 7 seconds of each other. Roxanne Fleischer, Rachel Griffith, and Emily Hajar, all Green Terror runners finished 1-2-3 in the women’s field with times of 20:18, 22:06, and 23:18, respectively.
Twelve-year old Michael Wegner finished fourth overall with an outstanding time of 17:06. John Way, last year’s male victor, was officially the 2nd masters runner with a time of 19:51. The first masters female winner was Kahleen Wegner with a time of 23:43. Mike Keeports (20:20) and Chris Reese (32:08) were the first place veteran (50 and over) male and female runners, and Jim Bullock running a very respectable time of 24:50 was the first 60 and over finisher.
