Wakefield Valley Community Trail – Westminster.
The sun came out on a Saturday morning after a week of rain to the pleasure of many children and families participating in this Westminster City Recreation running event to support the Carroll County Youth Service Bureau and the Family Center Group Fitness Program – a great collaboration promoting physical and mental health. All three events; the Kiddie Run, One Miler, and 5K open attracted the biggest fields to date for this 9th annual event. The longer distances were run on the newly completed Wakefield Trail (AKA “Terry Burke Memorial Trail”). The 5K open male winner crossed the finish in 18:49, while YSB’s own Mindy Yard claimed the female open title in 21:27 out of a total 68 participants. The children were beaming with medals hanging around their necks while the 5K participants walked off with colorful flower pots planted by clients from the Aktion Club – a Kiwanis sponsored group of developmentally disabled adults. Thanks to all the volunteers from Westminster City Rec Department and Carroll County Youth Service Bureau.
