Flower & Jazz Festival 5K & Kids' Runs, 11 May 2008. The 8th annual Flower and Jazz Benefit Run for Carroll County Youth Service Bureau was held Saturday morning, May 10th in a steady rain at Tahoma Farm Park near Westminster. The running festival sponsored by Westminster City Recreation Department included a 200 yard kiddie run that previewed the distance stars of tomorrow, while older kids and adults got a chance to prove themselves on the hilly one mile and 5K courses that wound along the paved paths of Wakefield residential community. In the 5K, Spencer Hamble needed a final 100 yard sprint to edge Rachel Walter for the winning time of 21:24. William Weisgerber, 14, continued to showcase his young talent at WRRC events by finishing a strong 4th overall in 22:31. Masters runners and WRRC stalwarts, Skip Fennel and Liuda Galinaitis took first place in the over 50 category. Despite the steady downpour, smiles and laughter were in large supply for this worthwhile contribution to mental health services for children and families at the Youth Service Bureau..
