Moreland grabbed the lead early but could never relent as McCubbin stayed close to him the whole way. Moreland-- the first male, first masters, and first 50-59 runner--got first choice of Joe Loveland's flowers and plants, a fixture at this race for years;
McCubbin ran an eerily quiet race (according to Moreland), running a solid second the whole way, to finish twelve seconds behind Moreland and over four minutes ahead of Chrissy Pennington and Erin Laird;
Steve Nelson ran in no-mans land most of the race to finish third and the first in the 40-49 age group;
Gary Honeman returned to the running wars after suffering from injury for a long time. He too ran by himself most of the way;
Chrissy Pennington and Erin Laird ran together at an eight minute pace for the whole race to finish as the second and third females in the race. After the race Erin joined the club, and Chrissy dug into her wallet to contribute;
While Skip Fennell finished as the first 60 and over runner, he was happiest about the fact that the race cost him much less money this year, since he did not repeat his humiliation of receiving a speeding ticket during his drive to the starting line.
The Rodriguez and Reese families finished as the first all-male two generation team and all-female two generation team, respectively. Chris also finished as the first masters female and received a plant for her efforts.
