Joanne Lynam Memorial 5K Run Mathers, Hursey Capture Lynam Run. On Saturday, April 22, just a few days after the Main Street Mile was run in glorious weather, the fifth annual Joanne Lynam Memorial Run was conducted at the Shiloh MIddle School in Hampstead under really rotten--dark, dreary, rainy, slippery, windy, chilly--conditions. Even with only about 100 runners and virtually no walkers, almost $1400 was collected, a testimony to the power of coaches to "convince" student athletes that they would in fact enjoy the run, the power of already committed money, and the decision not to include T-shirts as part of the race packet. Dustin Mathers broke clear of the lead pack during the last mile of the 5K run to win the boys division by a half-minute, while Katie Hursey, the reigning girls Class AAA state cross-country champion cruised to a sixth place overall finish, winning the girls division by over two minutes. Anyone who would like to contribute to the Lynam Fund, which is used to fund college scholarships for North Carroll graduates, can contact Diane Spalt at 410-386-4570. The top ten finishers in the two divisions are listed below.
