Twilight Series, Race #5 Pleasant Valley 4-mile Run, 28 July 2005 Andrews, Stick Win at Pleasant Valley Ian Andrews from Walkersville and club member Sherry Stick captured the Pleasant Valley Four Mile Run, the fifth of this summer's Twilight Series Runs, held on July28 at Pleasant Valley. Andrews, currently a rising junior at Mt. St. Mary's University, led the pack of fifty-seven runners through the fist mile in a time of 5:45, with FSK runner Arthur Leathers and Karsten Brown--who drives all the way from Front Royal, Virginia, for these races--trailing by less that ten seconds. By the time he reached the three mile mark in 17:30. Andrews held a ten second lead of Brown, with former FSK runner Ron Shriver another ten seconds back. Although both Brown and Shriver stayed close to Andrews during the last mile, Andrews increased his lead to win over Brown by twenty-four seconds, with Shriver only six seconds behind in third. Jared Welsh and Jacob Sisler finished in the top five male runners, with Peter Dodd--the first finisher in the 40-49 age group-- eleventh, Tom Russell--the first finisher in the 50-59 age group--twelfth, and Roger Kilgore--the first finisher in the 60-69 age group--sixteenth. Stick, who has won the female division in each of the Twilight Series Races this summer and who owns this particular race, ran in the top five overall throughout the entire race, reaching the one mile mark in 5:55, forty seconds ahead of Becky Alvarez, with Jaime Wright, Tina McCubbin, and Karen Young buched closely behind Alvarez. By the time she had reached the three mile mark in 18:04, Stick was fourth overall and had greater than a two minute lead over Alvarez. Her final time of 24:18, godd for fourth overall, produced a three minute win in the female division. Alvarez finished well ahead of McCubbin, recent winner of the Women's Distance Festival Run, with Wright and Young also in the top five. Debbie Leathers, the first finisher in the 40-49 age group, was ninth, Chris Reese, the first finisher in the 50-59 age group, was twentieth, and Dee Nelson, the first finisher in the 60-69 age group, was seventh. The next and final race of this Summer's Twilight Series will be the Runnymede 8K, to be held at 7:00 pm on August 11 at Runnymede Elementary School.
