Otterdale 5-mile Run, 23 October 2005 Stahr, McCubbin Romp at Otterdale On a windy but sunny day in suburban Taneytown, Bill Stahr and Tina McCubbin scored convincing wins in the Otterdale Five Mile Run, one of the flattest but often windiest runs conducted by the Westminster Road Runners. At the end of the first mile, run straight down Stonesifer Road, Stahr passed through with a time of 6:23, good for a ten second lead over Chris Sinclair, with Tina McCubbin close behind and Mark Hadley, Jay Lochhead, and Bob Leatherman also under seven minutes. Although this race had been run for several years on the weekend that the clocks changed, causing people to arrive early or late, this year's date still saw over ten percent of the field arrive late, thus contributing to some really slow first mile times. By the time that Stahr reached the half-way point and returned to the three mile mark, his time of 18:50 had produced a forty second lead over Sinclair, with McCubbin, Hadley, and Lochhead within a half-minute of each other. Stahr's final time was a minute ahead of Sinclair, with Hadley, who passed McCubbin at the beginning of the fourth mile in third, and Lochhead in fifth. McCubbin's strong run produced a fourth place overall finish and a more than four minute advantage over Laura Figall. The next WRRC event will be on her home course, Stone Road, on Sunday, November 20. See the schedule for more information.
