Riemenschneider, of Winchester, Va., completed the two-mile circuit in 11 minutes, 11 seconds to easily win the shorter open race. He then ran to the awards area, received his trophy and headed towards home to umpire a Little League baseball game. Anneliese Galinaitis, age 8, was the first female to cross the finish line of the two-mile event. Galinaitis finished in 22:48, good for seventh overall. Shortly afterwards she placed sixth in the 1/4-mile Kids' Run, finishing the 2 X 200-meter gravel loop in 1:48.8. In the four-miler, Hereford High School Cross Country Coach John Roemer led from start to finish, even outclassing the pace bike by 200 meters at one point, to finish in first place. Roemer, 42, of Parkton, Md., went out at a blazing 4:58 first mile and hit the turnaround at about 10:44. At this point, 39-year-old Wayne Cottrell of Layton, Utah, was still on his heels. But Roemer sealed with win by steaming down the 400-meter hill at 2.5-miles. Roemer finished in 22:16.6, while Cottrell was second overall in 22:39.3. WRRC member Sherry Esposito won her ninth consecutive club race in stellar fasion, outclassing the next best of the female field by nearly two minutes. Esposito was fifth overall in 25:11.8 while Becky Alvarez of Westminster was 10th overall and the second woman in 27:08.1. After placing fifth in the two-mile run, Nick Galinaitis overcome a challenge from 10-year-old Mindy Daugherty to win the 1/4-mile Kids' Run in 1:33. The Kids' Run featured two 200-meter loops around the old Warner's Dairy building. After 200 meters, Daugherty held a half-stride lead over Galinaitis. Once on the homestretch, however, Galinaitis was on cruise control heading to the finish chute. Daugherty was second in 1:36.7, while Ben Callier was third in 1:40.8. 2 MILE 4 MILE KIDS RUN Age Group Awards Special thanks to

Message from Kevin Spradlin, Race Director - Congratulations to all 51 participants in the Frizellburg Antique Store Running Festival. For a first-year event, I am thrilled to note that we have runners from so many different areas of the county and state. I'd really like to say "Thanks" to a host of different people and groups. First, Jamie & Laura Turner, owners of the Frizellburg Antique Store who made the race possible with their sponsorship. Second, the large group of volunteers from the Running for Life group from Western Maryland College - Jill, Kristen, Diana, Katie, Dave, Blaire and Erin. With your help, everything went smoothly from start to finish. Third, my neighbors, John, Phyllis & Erica Hesson. John was on the bike, with Jeremy Keil of Western Maryland College, to help guide runners while Phyllis and Erica helped with finish line maintenance. Next, to the Hagerstown adidas Retail Outlet Center, who supplied the 15 % Discount Coupons. If you didn't get one, email me and you can arrange to pick one up on your way to Hagerstown. At the store in Hagerstown, be sure to thank the manager, Mr. Imran Choudhery, for his help. To Mike Spinnler and the Cumberland Valley Athletic Club for letting the WRRC use its equipment - water coolers, road safety signs, etc. The CVAC helped our club put on a top-notch race, if I do say so myself! To Don & Kim Daut, who pulled triple duty. First, they helped recruit a large contingent from the North Carroll County area. Second, they both ran the 4-miler - and they both arrived early to handle registration. Thanks! While most everything went right today, there is plenty of room for improvement. Next year, I'll try to close the road to traffic. Also, there may not be enough interest in the 2-mile to warrant running it again next year. We'll see. If we stick to the 4-mile course, we can fill all 14 age groups and have nicer-looking trophies for the winners. Most importantly, we'll have the Kids' Run first. While everyone seemed to like the format of two laps around the old dairy building (no road, no traffic, no cars), it was tough having the little ones do nothing for 45 minutes. We'll let the youngsters run first next year, which will accomplish two things: First, whoever comes solely for the kids' run can leave right afterwards. Second, parents who may be running the 4-miler can still watch their kid(s) run, and then run in the open event. Lastly, I feel that feedback is a crucial step towards improving anything. If you have a comment, critique, etc., feel free to email me at TrackWrtr@aol.com and let me know your feelings. Thanks! - kjs 2 MILE 4 MILE KIDS RUN Age Group Awards Special thanks to
