Poulos, Esposito capture top spots in Twilight Series #1 at WMC

WESTMINSTER, June 13 -- McLean, Va., resident Ted Poulos ran 57 seconds slower than last year's winning time yet still managed to win the first competition of the Twilight Series for the second straight year.

   Poulos, 40, battled Bowling Brook Prep track coach Peter Dodd over the 8 + laps to finish in 11 minutes, 7 seconds. Dodd was second in 11:25, four seconds faster than last year when he placed 13th.

   On the women's side, Team CMAC member Sherry Esposito continued her dominance of her fellow females on the local running scene by winning the women's division by a comfortable 54 seconds over runner-up Tina McCubbin.

   The win was Salisbury State University graduate's 11th win in as many tries in WRRC-sponsored competition dating back to August 9, 2001.

   Esposito, 24, finished first this year in 11:45 compared to her 2001 time of 12:11. She's been working with Western Maryland College coach Doug Renner for more than a year and has been competing for Team CMAC since April of this year.
