Jim Lebo runs away with Bachman title

WESTMINSTER, 9/30 -- Jim Lebo became a first-time winner of the Bachman Valley Half-Marathon in historic fashion, posting the largest margin ever between first and second place. 

          Lebo, 33, of Shrewsbury, Pa., crossed the finish line in 1 hour, 12 minutes and 9 seconds -- outclassing the next best of the competition by 12 minutes and 5 seconds. Two 45-year-olds, David Goucher and Bennett Sweren, finished second and third, respectively, followed by Sykesville resident Alan Pobletts, fourth overall in 1:24:39. Pobletts, 38, finished fourth in 1999 and third in 2000. Pobletts was also the first Westminster Road Runners Club member to cross the finish line. 

          Club member Tina McCubbin avenged last year's runner-up finish. She was the first female to cross the finish line, clocking  a 1:34:01 -- more than two minutes faster than last year. McCubbin, 30, continued her success at the 13.1-mile distance. She now has two wins, two second-place finishes, one fourth and one fifth -- all since 1996.

          Anne Ensor's time of 1:35:51 was good for second place, followed by Susan Shalka in 1:36:39.
