Westminser, 12/02 -- Less than 24 hours after winning the women's 600-meter run at the Dickinson College Holiday Invitational, Sherry Esposito was the first female to cross the finish line in the Frozen Finger Four-Miler by the Carroll County YMCA in Westminster.
The win was Esposito's second in her last two club races, as she skipped the Otterdale Five Mile run two weeks ago. Esposito averaged 6:26 per mile to finish in 25:43, good for fourth place overall while setting a women's record on the hilly out-and-back road course. Jenny Caple was the second female, 16th overall, in 31:54.
Ted Poulos won his second straight club race by averaging 6:04 per mile to finish in 24:15.
Poulos jumped to the lead from the outset while Western Maryland College distance standout John Reagan and Sykesville resident Alan Pobletts stayed within striking distance through the first two miles. After the turnaround, however, the race was clearly Poulos' to lose.
Poulos, who is on pace to complete 220 races this year, puts in just 30-40 miles each week training.
"It just depends on what I'm training for," he said shortly after crossing the finish line.
Reagan fell off pace with Poulos at the halfway point but managed a respectable 24:35 finish. Pobletts was third in 25:12.
"This wind was horrible," said Reagan after thanking Poulos for a good race. "It took the life out of me. I just couldn't keep up with him."
