This is to only a general guide to the Rite of Viaticum Outside of Mass. There are other options that the family and presider may choose for the different parts of the rite.
Introductory Rite
- Greeting
- Celebrant:
- The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
- R. Amen.
- Sprinkling with Holy Water
- Celebrant:
- The Lord is our shepherd and leads us to streams of living water.
- Instruction
- My brothers and sisters, before our Lord Jesus Christ passed from this world to return to the Father, he left us the sacrament of his body and blood. When the hour comes for us to pass from this life and join him, he strengthens us with this food for our journey and comforts us by this pledge of our resurrection.
- Penitential Rite
- My brothers and sisters, to prepare ourselves for this holy anointing, let us call to mind our sins.
- After a brief period of silence, the penitential rite continues, using one of the following:
- Lord Jesus, you healed the sick:
- Lord have mercy.
- R. Lord have mercy
- Lord Jesus, you forgave sinners:
- Christ have mercy.
- R. Christ have mercy
- Lord Jesus, you give us yourself to heal us and bring us strength:
- Lord have mercy.

- Apostolic Pardon (only done if the minister is a priest)
- Through the holy mysteries of our redemption,
- may almighty God release you from all punishments
- in this life and in the life to come.
- May he open to you the gates of paradise
- and welcome you to everlasting joy.

- N., do you believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth?

- who was born of the Virgin Mary,
- was crucified, died, and was buried,
