Apostles

The twelve apostles are listed in four places in the bible. All were martyred except for John. Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus and was replaced by Matthias. see Acts 1:21-26.

Archangels

The Church officially recognize only three angels by name - Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. The other names have evolved out of tradition and are sporadically found in Jewish apocryphal books such as Enoch. Tobit 12:15 says "I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who enter and serve before the Glory of the Lord." This number is probably symbolic and represents all those ministers who are entitled to stand before God, ready to do his will and not necessarily an exact count.
