Judges
The book of Judges covers two centuries of Israel's history between the settlement in Cannan and the beginning of the Monarchy. This book is probably most noted for the story of Samson and Delilah. The book is divided as follows: Palestine after the Death of Joshua (Jdg 1:1-3:6), Stories of the Judges (Jdg 3:7-16:31) The Tribes of Dan and Benjamin in the Days of the Judges (Jdg 17:1-21:25).

Ruth
Ruth is not part of the deuteronomic history, but is a story of family loyalty. The Book of Ruth was probably written around 800 B.C. It is placed in this location of the Bible because of the loyalty of Ruth, the foreigner, enables her to become the ancestress of David. The book is only four chapters long and is laid out as follows: Ruth and Naomi (Ruth 1), Ruth in the Fields of Boaz (Ruth 2), Boaz Sleeps (Ruth 3), and Boaz Marries Ruth (Ruth 4).
