Leviticus
The third book of the Pentateuch was given the name "Leviticus" because its main theme deals with the laws given to Moses by God. It was the responsibility of the tribe of Levi (known as the Levites) to see that these laws were carried out. The overall purpose of these laws was to help the Israelites to remain legally pure, as a sign of the intimacy with God.
