Newbery Books
Each year, the Newbery Award is given to a writer for the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.  The author must be either a United States citizen or resident.  The award is given by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association.  You'll see a gold medal on the Newbery winner. You'll see silver medals on books that were named honor books.  For more information, link to The Newbery Medal Home Page and also to The Newbery Medal Description.
