1999 Caldecott
Martin, Jaqueline Briggs.  Illustrated by Mary Azarian. Snowflake Bentley.  Boston: Houghton, 1998.

All his life, Wilson Bentley loved the outdoors, and he especially loved the snow.  As a boy, he studied the snowflakes under a microscope.  They were so beautiful!  He tried to draw them, but they always melted.  When he was a teenager, his parents bought him an expensive camera so that he could take pictures of the tiny designs.  The neighbors laughed.  But Wilson Bentley ignored them.  Find out what happens to a boy who followed his dream.
