Milhous, Katherine.  The Egg Tree.  New York: Scribner, 1950.

On Easter morning, the sun was shining, the spring air smelled so fresh and the Easter Rabbit had hidden painted eggs everywhere! Carl won a prize for finding twelve eggs, but Katy found the most beautiful ones. Long ago, Grandmother had painted them in the Pennsylvania Dutch style. She showed the children how to make an Egg Tree, starting a tradition that brought visitors from all over! (AB)
