Introduction
Mount Airy is fortunate to have so many citizens interested in serving their community. We have a number of Commissions, Committee(s) & Task Force(s) that assist the town in addressing issues. If you are interested in serving on a commission, committee or task force, you should contact Town Hall and/or the Mayor by sending a letter or e-mail.
- If you are interested in serving the community through one of the town Commissions, Committee(s) or Task Force(s), even if there is no vacancy you should not hesitate to let us know. Vacancies often come up given the number of commissions we have and it is very helpful to know who would be interested in serving when vacancies occur.
- It helps if you outline the nature of your interest and whether you are primarily interested in certain commissions.
- Your background and reason for interest is always helpful in guiding our decision as to how the town can offer you a worthwhile experience, and how your service can best benefit the town.
- If you are applying for a specific vacancy, certainly let us know that also.
- Commission Guidelines recently passed by the Town Council (Aug 2006), all
commissions may have alternate members who will be able to serve in the absence
of a regular member. The purpose of this requirement is to better ensure a quorum for
commissions in conducting business. Alternate members attend meetings along with
regular members and may participate in discussions and may vote whenever a regular member
is absent. Interested citizens are encouraged to apply.
