Beautification Commission

The Beautification Commission meets monthly at 7:30 pm on the 4th Tuesday at the Town Hall.

This is one of the older Town Commissions, being established in the 1980s with the intent to beautify the Town. At that time the Town was considerably smaller, and efforts were on installing planters and adding flowers and plants as well as general cleanup in the down-town region. Since then the Committee has added the many Town Parks to its list of projects. Additions have been made to Watkins Park, Wildwood Park, East-West Park and, most recently, Vest Pocket Park on North Main Street.

The Commission develops and executes landscaping and enhancement plans for both Town property and parks. It currently has a full roster, but visitors and other volunteers are needed to help maintain the Town Parks gardens. It tends to be more hands on than other Town commissions and actively works projects. Examples include Wildwood Park, where the landscaping around the sign and gazebo are completed. Future projects include adding a hiking trail through East West Park into an undeveloped but forested area behind Mount Airy West, helping with the creation of a Rain Garden at Summit Ridge Park, and designing a gazebo for VestPocket Park.
