Adoption
Adoptable Animals | Adoption Requirements

We DO NOT adopt dogs and cats to be kept outside 24 hours a day. They are companion animals. All dogs and cats MUST be neutered.

Prospective adopters must be willing to agree to the following:

  1. Obey all state and county laws pertaining to the animal you are planning to adopt. A copy of Carroll County Ordinance 26 will be provided in your adoption packet. Please familiarize yourself with these laws.

  2. To comply with the designated dates for rabies innoculations and sterilization, and to maintain up to date shot records. Dogs must always be currently licensed.

  3. If you do not own the property on which you reside we will require written permission from the landlord or property manager.

  4. To have the new pet examined by a vet within 7 days if it is under 4 months of age and within 3 weeks if it is over 4 months of age. This will ensure its present and future health.

  5. To provide proper food, proper water and proper shelter (when the pet is outdoors). Proper shade must be provided in the summer months as well as fresh, clean water (available at all times).

  6. To keep the pet as your own, not to give away or abandon it. If you can no longer keep the pet you MUST return it to the Humane Society of Carroll County.

  7. Home inspections may be required on "special placement" animals. Every effort will be made to do the inspection in a timely fashion. The animal will remain at the Humane Society until the inspection is completed. Follow up compliance visits may be made on any animal adopted from the Humane Society.

  8. To keep the pet well groomed and to keep the pet free of fleas and other parasites.

  9. Families with more than 1 child between the age of six months and six years of age may not adopt a small to medium breed puppy under 3 months. No kitten under 3 months.

  10. Contracts, and disclaimers are posted on our bulletin board call our office at (410) 848-4810 for more information.

  11. We will do a prior history check on all prospective adopters.

  12. The Humane Society reserves the right to deny any adoption.

  13. We will not be responsible for any veterinary expenses.
