TEVIS COLLEGE ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS
APPLICATION GUIDELINES
Purpose To provide tuition assistance to students pursuing a degree in the arts at the college level. For the purpose of this scholarship program, arts are defined to encompass vocal and instrumental music, music education, performance, music theory, composition, art, art history, arts education, creative writing, drama, theatre, media arts, film studies, dance, photography, graphic design, costume design, architecture, interior design and animation. The scholarships are awarded in memory of Dorothy Tevis, a devoted patron of the arts in Carroll County. Funds were provided by a bequest from Mrs. Tevis as well as contributions made to the Carroll County Arts Council in her memory.
Eligibility Applicants must be high school seniors residing in Carroll County. More than one student per household may be eligible, but separate applications should be completed. Colleges must be accredited educational institutions located in the United States. Children of Arts Council Board Members and staff are not eligible to apply.
Awards One $600 scholarship will be made available to each of the public high schools in Carroll County to award to a high school senior pursuing a degree in the arts. The awards are based on artistic promise and financial need. One of the awards will be the Anne Miller Scholarship and will be presented to a student pursuing a degree in visual arts education. A review committee from each school will be appointed by the Principal. Applications from students attending a private high school will be reviewed by The Arts Council Board of Directors. The Arts Council reserves the right to distribute no funding if there are insufficient applicants or the applicants do not meet standards of acceptability as judged by the appointed review committee. Scholarship checks are paid directly to the college or university. Students receiving scholarships will be required to give the Arts Council a copy of their acceptance letter before the check is issued.
Restrictions The Arts Council reserves the right to withdraw an award if 1) The student does not graduate from high school within 6 months of award 2) If they are not accepted by the university stated on the application 3) If the student does not enroll in an arts-related degree program within 6 months of the award. 4) If any of the application information is determined to be false.
Application Procedure The attached form must be fully completed and accompanied by the required statement from the student and letter(s) of support. Applications are available on our website, www.carr.org/arts, however, submissions must be received on hard copy, not via e-mail. Applications and all supplementary information should be mailed to the Carroll County Arts Council (91 West Main Street, Westminster, MD 21157) and must be received by April 18, 2008 at 3 pm.
Notification All applicants will receive written notification regarding their application within 45 days.
